Apple’s revamped Mac Mini with the M4 Pro chip might be its smallest yet, but it’s got a lot packed under the hood. Apple took the iconic desktop, shrunk it down to a tidy five by five inches, and added front-facing ports for the first time—finally, a way to connect without that awkward reach-around! It’s a clear nod to users who want a more convenient and workspace-friendly machine, and Apple’s also beefed up the internal thermal system. But with that compact design, there are still some trade-offs, especially if you’re looking to push it to its max for hours on end. You’ll love it for most things, but expect some thermal limits if you’re really pushing heavy-duty tasks.

And then there’s the performance. The M4 Pro version I tested has a 12-core CPU and 16-core GPU setup, and Apple’s reworked the core distribution to lean even more towards power. Compared to the M3 Pro, the M4 Pro absolutely flies through tasks, especially for creative pros handling video editing, 3D rendering, or big simulation projects. But here’s the catch—the price tag climbs fast as you configure it up, and suddenly you’re looking at spending almost double to add some RAM or storage. The M4 Mac Mini is versatile, future-proofed with Thunderbolt 5, and undeniably powerful, but Apple’s typical premium pricing means you’re in for some sticker shock if you want it all.
