Good Game Design - The Legend of Zelda: Growing Stronger

Lots of games are designed to make you feel like you're progressing, but the Zelda series makes you feel like a true hero. You could also call this the "Come Back Later" principle, as it makes sure you've gained certain abilities before progressing in the game.

Good Game Design is a series where we look at different principles of what makes games great! Sometimes it's nice to appreciate the finer parts of gaming out there.
