Australian International Billfish Tournament 2024 Tasmania PART TWO. Swordfishing.

Part two.. what a crazy day this was!! The most physical, emotional and best day fishing I have ever experienced! We dropped 7 baits, got 6 hook-ups, lost 2 on the drive to the surface, tagged and released 3 Broadbill Swordfish and lost another on the leader boat-side. Incredible!! The stars aligned and we were gifted.
One was a dream bucket list fish, estimated close to 300kg and took 3.5hrs in itself. They fight differently these models and it was a mental battle as much as it was a physical one. It was a tough day in the harness, but nothing rewarding ever comes easy.

A little bit about the AIBT. For the first time ever in it’s 61-year history, was held in Tasmanian waters. The AIBT Tasmania was a qualifying event for the Nationals in Costa Rica, although we won't be attending.

Teams could nominate up to 7 days fishing within the 14-day competition window, with the entire East Coast of Tasmanian providing the spectacular backdrop to what was a phenomenal event!
From the 30 boats and 107 entrants a total of 29 Swordfish were tagged and released, with many more caught and lost, drawing international acclaim for record-breaking success - putting Tassie on the game fishing map!
This event brought together fishing enthusiasts from across the state and nation sparking widespread excitement and anticipation showcasing the passion of anglers and contributing to a memorable and historic event.
