Can you find treasure with an ion detector? The answer is yes. Here's the theory. Ions exist in nature. They are related to radon, a type of radiation. Radon is a radioactive element of the uranium series that is found in rocks and soil, especially in granite and igneous rocks. Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that slowly seeps into space and emits alpha rays as it decays in the air, ionizing the surrounding air molecules. As a result, the air in a cavity may contain relatively many ions from natural radiation. This means that the density of the soil in an artificially filled hole is lower than that of the surrounding soil. Whether ion detectors are useful in treasure hunting has not been scientifically proven, however these theories may be useful in attempting to detect treasure burial sites or cavities.　However, it is important to understand that buried treasure, gold, and cavities do not directly produce ions.
