Hong Kong was transformed into a floating spectacle on Saturday as four giant pop-culture icons sailed into Victoria Harbour to mark the launch of the city’s Water Parade.

Stretching 20 metres high, footage shows inflatable figures of Labubu, Doraemon, Sesame Street’s Elmo and Grimace, who will stay anchored just off Tamar Park for the next eight days.

The installation is the brainchild of creative studio AllRightsReserved, known for its large-scale public art projects.

“There are many layers to this project. The public rarely gets to see a crossover collaboration on this scale," said SK Lam, founder of AllRightsReserved, as he opened the installation to the public.

"I heard many asking: How did your company manage to bring so many IPs together in one place?” Lam continued, explaining that the company focused on pop icons that had a large influence in Southeast Asia.

“I found it really interesting to see all four of them floating together,” said Chan, a painter who came to witness the icons first-hand.

“Labubu is the hot topic. But, to be frank, I found most Hong Kong people taking photos of Doraemon the most. The Doraemon IP out here attracts different age groups,” he added.

The inflatables form part of the Water Parade Market, running until November 1. The event features a wide range of international IP-themed pop-ups, including themes from Netflix's 'KPop Demon Hunters', 'Stranger Things' Season 5, 'Squid Game', Snoopy, and the classic Peanuts family.

Alongside the dream-like IP showcase, the market will also feature food and beverage stalls, skill games, exclusive photo zones, and a capsule toy area.

On November 1, the four gigantic inflatable characters will sail along both sides of the harbour, cruising between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon in a colourful parade.
