Restoration Process:
I really wanted to push myself and make the handle myself, rather than buying one. This turned out to be a big challenge, and I ended up making 3 in total before getting it right (mainly because I got over-excited and put the axe head on upside down on my second try!).
The wood is Ash, and is a great hardwood choice for tool handles.
I start by removing the rusty axe head from the handle, eventually... Then soaked the head in a mixture of White Vinegar and salt for 48 hours. I then used an angle grinder to get rid of the pits and stubborn rust, before sanding using a mixture of 120 to 3000 grit sandpaper.
The biggest challenge with this project was definitely making the axe head fit the wood. It had to be straight and just the right shape to fix the axe head over.

Very rewarding, and I am delighted with the outcome!

Please do let me know if there's anything you'd like to see restored.

See you next time!
