Novelis shows how to be a world leader in sustainable aluminium manufacturing

Every year, millions of tons of aluminium that could have been recycled, instead are discarded in landfills around the globe.

As a result, the wasted materials require the increased production of primary aluminium, which is highly energy intensive. Novelis, the world’s largest aluminium recycler and maker of flat rolled aluminum, is striving to do its part in helping the aluminum industry reduce the 1 billion tons of CO2 it emits annually by increasing the amount of aluminium it recycles.

It’s important to note that recycling aluminium yields a much smaller carbon footprint than primary production. In fact, using recycled aluminium is by far the lowest carbon-intensive process to produce flat-rolled aluminium products.
