hey y’all!! I surprised my grandpa by making him my great grandmas famous German chocolate pecan cake!! It was so much fun to do with my mom and I can’t wait to make some more of her recipes for you guys!!!

RECIPE:

CAKE:
melt 1 bar of bakers germans sweet chocolate in 1/2 cup of boiling water. cool. cream 1 cup of butter and 2 cups sugar until fluffy. add 4 egg yolks, 1 at a time, beating well after each. blend in 1 teaspoon of vanilla and the chocolate. sift 2 1/4 cups flour and 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. add the dry ingredients and 1 cup of buttermilk alternately into the mix. beating after each addition until smooth. fold in beaten whites. pour into 3 9 inch pans and put in oven at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

COCONUT-PECAN FROSTING:
combine 1 cup evaporated milk, one cup sugar, three slightly beaten egg yolks a half a cup butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla. cook and stir medium heat until thickened about 12 minutes. Add 1 1/3 cups of coconut flakes and 1 cup of chopped peanuts. cook until thick enough to spread, beating occasionally.
