STORYLINE:
Intense rains triggered flash floods in Indian-controlled Kashmir’s Jammu region, leaving at least 32 people dead and many others missing in a landslide on a Hindu pilgrimage route, according to news agency Press Trust of India.

It was yet another disaster from heavy downpours in the Himalayan region, after flash floods there killed at least 65 people there earlier this month.

Thousands were evacuated from low-lying flooded areas in Jammu and officials ordered most schools and universities to remain shut on Wednesday.

Authorities were also trying to restore telecom and internet services in some regions.

Intense rains left the Tawi and Chenab rivers overflowing beyond their alert levels.

Transport was also severely disrupted, with roads waterlogged and train services and some flights cancelled or diverted.

Some highways connecting the region to Indian states were also damaged in multiple landslides.

Weather officials forecast more rain across the region and asked residents to remain vigilant.
