I got asked on Facebook a few weeks ago "how did my anxiety improve so much?". What did I do? What has made the biggest difference in helping me improve my anxiety levels? I thought it'd make a good video topic.

You might be struggling at the moment, looking for answers and spending every waking hour doing everything you can to try and 'fix' your anxiety disorder. Well, I'm living proof that spending so much time focussing all your energy on anxiety and recovery can sometimes become more of a hindrance.

I made a conscious decision a while back to just "STOP". I stopped watching anxiety and mental health videos, I stopped listening to anxiety self-help audio, I stopped scanning social media for help with anxiety and listening to the "experts" on what I should and shouldn't be doing. I read all the books and digested all the info on anxiety many years ago, and all I was doing was running over the same old story in my mind and that was translating into my everyday life. The only time I ever left the house was in pursuit of freedom. Running myself into the ground with challenge after challenge, a constant pressure searching for the ultimate goal of removing anxiety.

I finally decided to give up the pursuit. I downed my tools and took a step back from that anxious life. I accepted that I might feel iffy now and again, as the anxiety symptoms took hold and tried to convince me that something is seriously wrong. But I simply acknowledged and quietened those thoughts and just submitted to those feelings.

Now I live my life in pursuit of something totally different. I'm looking to create memories, I'm looking to make up for all that lost time I spent looking out the window riddled with anxiety.

Get up, get out and get moving. That's the motto I live by now. You won't know how you feel until you do it. And then when you do it, you'll start to see things that capture your attention, and you'll start to notice things that spark a positive reaction. You'll find yourself wanting to go out and do things because you have the desire to do them, not because you feel you have to go out because of anxiety.

This might not work for everyone, granted. But you can see clearly how it's working for me. And while I'm still too freaked out to do certain things, I'm so much further along the road that I have been in years, and I'm finally enjoying the ride.
