Research Series (Mod) - F-Zero Maximum Velocity

This is a purely academic mod. I'm researching the internals of F-Zero Maximum Velocity, and had the idea to make the Championship and Single-Pak courses available in the other modes. And then I thought about putting the Single-Pak courses from GP Legend and Climax in it too. And then I thought that with just one more course, I could make a new series in Grand Prix mode. So I did.

Silence Open Circuit is already a part of Maximum Velocity: it's the course you race on in a Single-Pak multiplayer game. The music used here is also tucked away inside the game. One of four unused music tracks, it's the only one that's located among and uses the same sound font as the regular tunes. It's quite likely it was produced for use somewhere in the game but didn't make the cut.

The Single-Pak course in F-Zero GP Legend is Big Blue Calm Sea. The game uses the same course elements and graphics as Maximum Velocity, so migrating the data was a simple affair. The CPU pathing hints aren't present, however, so I had to set those up manually. Ancient Mesa was selected because I feel like it probably used to be Big Blue during development before they rebranded everything.

The Single-Pak course in F-Zero Climax is Fire Field Rat Race. This time, the course elements and graphics are drastically different, so a conversion had to take place on it. I got a fair amount of the way there with an automation, but had to do some touching up manually. All-in-all, I really like the way it turned out and it feels right at home.

One of the e-Reader courses for the Japanese version of GP Legend is Port Town Dukedom Circuit. I was immediately drawn to it because for whatever reason it just FEELS like a Maximum Velocity course to me, while none of the others in the game do. I've often wanted to actually play it in Maximum Velocity proper, and now I can.

Synobazz Championship Circuit is part of Maximum Velocity, as a special course that can only be raced in a time attack mode where the fastest user profile can save their performance as a ghost. The course wasn't set up for racing against CPUs, so some adjustments were needed. The result is a satisfyingly challenging experience.
