During World War I, a massive steel shortage forced the U.S. military to look for a desperate alternative: Concrete Ships. While it sounds impossible for a "stone ship" to float, engineers built a fleet of massive concrete vessels that actually crossed the Atlantic Ocean. Known as "The Concrete Fleet," these ships were surprisingly durable but extremely heavy and difficult to steer. Once the war ended and steel became available again, these giants were abandoned. Today, you can still see their haunting remains along coasts like Cape May, standing as "Ghost Ships" from a time of global crisis
