Bloomsday Dublin Walking Tour of Ulysses | Ireland, Ep. 2

Описание к видео Bloomsday Dublin Walking Tour of Ulysses | Ireland, Ep. 2

Includes Google coordinates! Bloomsday, an annual celebration of James Joyce's Ulysses on June 16th in Dublin, was the initial catalyst for taking our Ireland vacation in the first place. Magellan re-read the book for the 5th or 6th time and took a cornucopia of notes on times, events and direction of travel to prepare for our walking tour of Ulysses chapter by chapter in the footsteps of Leopold Bloom (and at times Stephen Dedalus). We are confident that we retraced the book with as much accuracy and faithfulness as possible in our attempt to show you many of the locations in this video. We are also confident that our legs were really sore the next day from all the walking. All told, we probably walked over 20 miles over the course of a 12+ hour day. The day began with a reading of Telemachus, the first chapter of Ulysses atop Martello Tower in Sandycove. We would also be remiss if we didn't mention that we saw a production of Ulysses the night before at the Abbey Theatre (to refresh Greyhound's memory) and visited the nearby James Joyce Centre where the original 7 Eccles Street door is on display.

For those unfamiliar with Ulysses, it is a highly regarded (and controversial) novel by the Irish writer James Joyce, widely considered to be one of the greatest pieces of literature ever written. Somewhat based on Homer's Odyssey, it takes place during the course of one day, June 16, 1904, in Dublin, Ireland.

For those interested in the route we took, we are including a simplified breakdown of Google coordinates for the more prominent points. It would simply be too difficult to map out the route for every point, such as Sir Rogerson's Quay, Lime Street, Westland Row, etc., but this should hopefully be a decent enough guide.

This video is the second of a daily video series of our travels to Ireland and Northern Ireland in June of 2018. From walking the lush greenery in the rugged hills and glens, hiking the breathtaking cliffs and coastal mountains, exploring caves and crags and remote off-shore islands, to the castles and ruins and hallmarks of pre-neolithic civilizations, we can honestly say it was one of the best times we have ever had. And do you know what was the most beautiful about the Emerald Isle? The people. In the cities or the countryside, to the north and the south, in pubs, tea rooms or during a walk. Some of the most warm, kind, affable (and usually very funny) people you will ever meet are in Ireland, and they'll be sure to fill you in on where all the good craic is.

If interested in our trip, please keep checking out this playlist as the series is released.
