Swedish anti American song about Nixon (pro Vietnam music) [Eng subs]

Описание к видео Swedish anti American song about Nixon (pro Vietnam music) [Eng subs]

Richard Dollarhjärta (Richard Dollarheart) by Knutna Nävar is an anti American and anti Nixon song from the Vietnam war. It's a great example of Swedish pro Vietnam music that was popular during the 70s, as well as of Swedish socialist music (progg) in general.

In it, Richard Nixon is depicted as a knight fighting for the might of the dollar, and getting more and more desperate when the people of Vietnam don't see him as a saviour.

The song was recorded and released by the communist band Knutna Nävar (Clenched Fists) for their album Vi slåss för vår framtid (We fight for our future) in 1972. Other versions of the song also exist, among them one by the Swedish band Freedom Singers. The one by Knutna Nävar is the better one, in my opinion.

Notes:

* At 2:02, it's mentioned that Dollarheart is "the jack of clubs". This is a Swedish pun - while "klöver knekt" is the word for this particular playing card, it could also be slang for "the soldier of money".

* This song has one of the best "emergency rhyme" in all of the Swedish communist music. The song mentions an ambulance towards the end - this was most probably only included to rhyme with "chance" in the line before. The rhyme works as well in English as in Swedish, but is definitely corny in both languages.

On this channel, I translate Swedish communist and socialist music (most of it from the 1970s). That includes anti-capitalist songs, worker songs, epic revolutionary music and Vietnam songs. Subscribe if you want to support the channel and not miss any of the upcoming songs!
