Delos Island, Greece - Greek History, Mythology and Archeology

Описание к видео Delos Island, Greece - Greek History, Mythology and Archeology

Often called The Birthplace of Immortals, the greek island of Delos is the mythological birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, whose father was King of the Gods Zeus. Delos is one of the most important mythological, historical and archeological sites in Greece. Just a short boat ride from Mykonos, the entire island is covered with ruins of a thriving society - commercial buildings, houses, temples and even water and sewer systems. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Our day on Delos included seeing:
The Avenue of the Lions, mythological birthplace of Apollo
The Colossus of the Naxians - the base and two marble pieces of the bust remain on the island. Some parts are now in museums, but the head has never been found.
The Temple of Isis
Where the Temple of Zeus stood on top of the hill
The House of Dionysus with a famous mosaic in the centre of the house
The Theatre and The Theatre Cisterns
The Agora of the Italians
The Temple of Apollo
The Temple of Artemis

It was captivating and an incredible place to visit. It is well marked and easy to visit, but having a guide made Delos come to life. And, typical of Greek islands, the resident cats come out to greet the boats carrying visitors! I highly recommend visiting.
