The 3 Judge Bench of the Supreme Court has delivered a landmark judgment on the interpretation of Section 6 of the Hindu Succession Act 1956 whereby daughters were treated as coparcanor like son and granted equal property rights in Hindu Joint Family. The matter was referred to larger Bench due to conflicting judgments of division bench of the Supreme Court on the applicability of Section 6 of the Act. The Supreme Court was considering whether the application of the amendment of 2005 is prospective or retrospective.
