Canon R8 - USB C Power

It is possible to recharge the Canon battery inside the Canon R8 and power the camera itself using the camera's USB-C socket. However all is not immediately clear as to what works and what doesn't work.

To cut to the chase, if you don't want to watch the video, is that you need a mains PSU or a Battery Bank that has USB-C output and which supports PD charging, a suitable charging lead that supports PD fast charging and a genuine (NOT a third party) Canon LP-E17 battery installed in the camera.

USB-A to USB-C powering / charging does NOT work.

Do also note that Canon's LC-E17E mains battery charger will NOT charge a third party battery.

Maximum power-pull from the USB-C is 9 Watts, so an 18w max power bank is perfectly fine. A powerbank with 20,000mAh capacity will last you ages.
