Play Dough

Today’s recipe isn’t exactly a recipe. Well, it is, but the plan isn’t to eat this, it’s to play with. After years of being told not to play with food, that’s exactly what we’re going to do. We’re turning a few staple pantry ingredients into play dough.

I’ve had this recipe in my back pocket for years, decades actually. Let’s not worry about the math, let’s just leave it at decades.
I honestly don’t remember a time when I didn’t know about this recipe because when I was little, in my grandparent’s kitchen, my grandma and I would whip up batches of this play dough. Grape, cherry, blue lemonade. Tons of different colors and smells to choose from.

Over the years, I’ve made this recipe for my younger siblings and even now for my own toddler.

If you want to make your own play dough with me, let’s get to it!

Ingredients:
Flour: 2 cups
Light Tasting Extra Virgin Olive Oil: 2 Tablespoons
Kool-Aid Flavor Packet: 1
Salt: ½ cup
Boiling Water: 1 cup

Instructions:
1. Put flour in a large bowl, add oil
2. In a separate bowl, combine boiling hot water, salt and kool aid packet, stir well
3. Add kool aid mixture to flour and mix, knead well
4. If needed, slowly add and knead mixture until it isn’t messy and you can easily shape it with your hands.

The humidity in my kitchen changes frequently, so it’s common that I need to add more flour. After a few additions, you’ll get a perfect consistency.
