SPLIT Recruitment: A Novel Approach to Residency Interviews during COVID-19 and Beyond

Beginning in 2017, the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix Internal Medicine Residency Program instituted comprehensive changes to our recruitment and interview processes. With the framework of SPLIT Residency Recruitment, the use of live video interviews separated from an in-person site visit preserves the meaningful components of traditional interview days while resulting in increased flexibility. Internal Medicine residency program leaders detailed the process for categorical and preliminary medicine programs, shared personal experiences, discussed outcomes, and answered submitting questions from participants.
