Beto (Samuel Adewunmi), Pagon (Killian Scott), and a Skrull named Virkus are ready for a mission when the episode begins. Beto asks the others whether they believe what they're doing will succeed, and Pagon responds that they do it because they believe in a better future. And trust necessitates taking chances. Pagon hands Beto the file for the human impersonator, and the three of them depart for the task.Gravik then appears in the tale, showing the Skrull Council the contraption he has been working on. He tells them that the three operatives are infiltrating the Royal Navy in order to assault a United Nations target. Gravik anticipates a response from Earth's heroes, but the gadget that the Daltons (Katie Finneran and Mark Bazeley) have been working on for him will allow the Skrulls to "change powers" as well as faces, transforming them into Super Skrulls. Meanwhile, the Skrulls in the Navy take their place, with Pagon disguised as a nuclear submarine.
Following the credits, we are transported to New York City in 1998. Fury enters a diner to meet with a Skrull acquaintance. The buddy in question is Priscilla, who is revealed to be Varra, the Skrull we met in Episode 2 introducing Fury and Gravik. She hands Fury an envelope, claiming it will "put Dreykov's men on their heels," a nod to General Dreykov of the Red Room, represented by Ray Winstone in Black Widow. Then we watch how Fury and "Priscilla" started dating over a cup of coffee. Back in the present, Fury prepares breakfast while watching TV analyst Chris Stearns (Christopher McDonald), who is a Skrull Council member in secret. Priscilla makes coffee, and they begin chatting about how long it has been since Fury has returned home. She wonders why Fury has returned after all this time. He informs her that he is now retired and is considering taking up a new hobby: vengeance.
Fury inquires about Priscilla's contact with Gravik, hinting that he suspects her of being a member of the insurrection. She dodges the subject, and we learn from their dialogue that she survived the Snap and mourned him until he reappeared in the Blip. But instead of remaining with her, he chose to flee to space. She then receives a mysterious phone call. Priscilla tells Fury it's unimportant, but he still has his doubts. Back at New Skrullos, Gravik is becoming suspicious as well, waking G'iah (Emilia Clarke) and confronting her about how the cops discovered their safe haven. She informs him that Brogan (Ben Peel) has clearly snapped under torture. Gravik isn't so easily duped, but he lets it go for now.
Talos, seeing he is encircled, tries to convince Gravik that humans are most formidable when faced with a shared opponent. Furthermore, Talos intends to expose the Skrulls, eliminating the element of surprise and using their advantage. When Gravik brings up G'iah again, Talos stabs his hand with a dagger and chokes him, instructing the rebel general not to say his daughter's name again. He then walks away, leaving Gravik to sullenly mend his injured hand (using either normal Skrull healing or Extremis). Outside, G'iah appears in the appearance of an elderly man and approaches Talos, handing him a phone and the specifics of the impending strike.
Fury and Talos had another fight on the drive to Bob's house in Portsmouth over how Fury undervalues Talos' contributions. Talos tells Fury that he would not have become the world's top spy if it weren't for him and the other Skrulls. The connection between these two characters is once again a delight as they bicker like old friends. They arrive at Bob's house and penetrate it, with Talos leading the way and Fury murdering some Skrull guards before following. Talos informs Fury over the radio that he has kidnapped Bob, but it is Bob who has Talos at gunpoint and is attempting to lead Fury into a trap. Fury, on the other hand, has Bob's son and forces the rebel to release Talos. Fury realized it was a trap by the fact that "Talos" addressed him Nick, and, in Fury's words, "Nobody calls me Nick, Bob."
G'iah flees New Skrullos now that her cover has been uncovered. Fury asks Talos why he didn't take Gravik's offer as he and Talos retrieve the deceased Skrull's body. Talos informs Fury that despite their thirty-year friendship, Fury has never met him. He tells him that he isn't with Gravik because he is with Fury, demonstrating that despite everything Fury has done, Talos still believes in him. Gravik intercepts G'iah as she is about to leave the Skrull compound. In an unexpected twist, he confesses that the strike was a ruse to catch the traitor. Gravik then shoots G'iah, marking the second major death in the series after Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders). Back at the Fury mansion, Priscilla/Varra receives a note and departs, traveling to a bank to get a safe deposit box. It contains a gun. She then receives a call from an anonymous individual (who sounds eerily similar to Rhodey), revealing that she works for Gravik, exactly as Fury predicted.
