OSI stands for Open Systems Interconnection, which was developed in the year 1984 by ISO- ‘International Organization of Standardization’. It is a seven-layer architecture that a computer system uses to communicate over a network. Each layer has specific functions to perform. All these layers work together to transmit the data from one system to another across the globe. This was the first standard model for network communications, adopted by many companies in the early years. The modern internet is not based on OSI, but the simpler TCP/IP model.
