Denver Health Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship - A Day in the Life
This short video gives an overview of Denver Health's one-year Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship and a peek at a day in the life of an orthopedic trauma fellow at Denver. In this video, you will see why this fellowship stands out from others around the country and learn where Denver Health's Orthopedic Trauma fellows have gone on to practice after their fellowships.

At Denver Health, as a fellow, you are an attending provider, taking call by yourself on the weekends and nights and even during the week, you will often be staffing cases on your own, always with backup of attendings.

Denver Health Orthopedic Trauma Fellows operate on over 120 pelvic and acetabular fractures per year - a higher volume than most other fellowships. As a Level One Academic Trauma Center, Denver Health fellows have the opportunity to operate on some of the most severe injuries, such as high energy fractures. Fellows will also be treating patients from all walks of life, as Denver Health cares for all – not turning anyone away – as part of its mission as the Denver metro area's safety net hospital. Patients are also referred to Denver Health from surrounding states throughout the Rocky Mountain region.

You will be led and mentored by Denver Health's Orthopedic Trauma surgeons Stephen Stacey, MD, Joshua Parry, MD, Austin Heare, MD and Cyril Mauffrey, MD. They all agree that the Denver Health Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship is a perfect springboard between education and learning as a resident, and then applying those principles and practices into your own independent practice.

Fellows can expect a level of graduated autonomy in terms of their medical decision making and inside the operating room. They treat patients from pediatrics to geriatrics, including a mix of blunt trauma, penetrating trauma, low energy falls and high energy traumatic injuries.

In addition, you will be living in Denver, Colorado, with the mountains close by and lots of outdoor activites that are hard to beat.

"There is excitement from day one to day 365," noted Dr. Mauffrey.
