When propagating cuttings in water, the water must be replaced every 1-2 days until the time of potting. As soon as the water is not completely clear/has a mucky discolor to it, it must be replaced with fresh water. If not replaced, the cuttings will rot. Rot can also occur when leaves or extra tissue that isn't the stem are in the water.
