In this video I will show you, how you can professionally reframe your 360-recordings with Premiere Pro using the Insta360 Reframe Plugin and which settings will give you the best results.

The Insta360 Reframe plugin convinced me so much, that I switched from GoPro Reframe FX to Insta360 Reframe. Insta360 Reframe offers the user even more options and possibilities, which excites me and that's why I show you everything in detail in this tutorial.

In my opinion, the best way to get the full potential out of your Insta360 camera or any other 360-camera is to reframe it in Adobe Premiere Pro with the Insta360 Reframe plugin.

0:49 Refraiming explanation
A 360-camera records the entire environment, but it is not possible for the viewer to experience the entire 360-degree environment on one screen. By reframing, only a selected part of the entire 360 video is displayed.

2:21 Installation
Before we start you also need to make sure that you have Premiere Pro and the Insta360 Reframe plugin installed. To install Insta360 Reframe, install the latest version of Insta360 Studio.

3:24 First Steps
Open Premiere Pro and create a new project to get started. Drag and drop the imported footage in the sequence.

4:48 Proxy Files
You can activate proxy file with the “toggle proxy” button. A proxy file is a low-quality replacement of the original. The advantage of proxy files are, that they allow you to work faster and without jerks. The .lrv file is automatically created by your Insta360 camera.

5:53 Insta360 Reframe Plugin
Under effects, search for Insta360 Reframe and drag & drop the effect onto your imported video. The most important step at the beginning is to set the correct sequence resolution in the “Resolution” parameter. If you click on the applied “Insta360 Reframe” effect in the effects control panel, a grid will immediately appear in the video preview. In the center you will find a small yellow cross which marks the centerpoint. The perspective can be changed by clicking on the preview video and moving the mouse.

8:07 Insta360 Reframe | camera operation
Numerous reframing settings can be made here. The “Template” parameter can be used to select defined default settings:
•,“Megaview” is a preset with a wide-angle perspective
•,“Crystal Ball” is a special view which is not particularly relevant for me
• “Tiny Planet” is the classic 360-camera perspective that I'm sure many of you are familiar with
• “Super wide angle” is similar to Megaview
• and “Dewarp” is a completely rectified image
The next parameter is the “FOV control”. FOV stands for field of view. This allows you to set the viewing angle in the video. In other words, how much of the entire 360 video material you want to squeeze into the reframed image.
The “distortion control” parameter is closely linked to this. You can now use it to influence the horizontal distortion.

12:05 Insta360 Reframe | source operation
In the “source operation” tab, the parameters pan, tilt and roll can be changed in the same way as in the “camera operation” tab. But the tab is used to correct the initial parameters.

14:13 Insta360 Reframe | Keyframes
The big advantage of 360 cameras is that the perspective can be changed dynamically in post-production. This leads to unique shots that are not possible with any other camera. And this is exactly what keyframe animations are needed for.

Activate the “Animation” function of all 3 movement parameters with the small stopwatch. Small diamonds immediately appear which are representing the so-called keyframes. Now I click in the preview window and change the perspective. New keyframes are created automatically. By clicking on the small triangle symbols, you can jump back to the first keyframe. Now I playback the video again and the pan movement is visible in the reframed video.

You can now set as many keyframes as you like for all parameters. Different keyframe transitions can be selected. I would recommend you to select the “continuous berzier” option. The setting smoothes out the transitions between the keyframes. As result the reframing movements appear much smoother and more natural. So you see, you have maximum freedom over the individual parameters.

18:58 Insta360 Reframe | Advanced settings
This tab allows you to activate dynamic blurring during reframing movements. If you now playback the video, you will notice a “motion-blur” effect. Motion blur makes everything look more natural and softer.
