To work you have to trigger fight with 1 Elite and 1 Novice, otherwise it might not work. It's also pretty much 100%, the only moment it might not work is when you draw Agonizing Transformation and both Demon Lores very late.
The real reason that strat might fail are the leeches (which happened to me in this video) since most of the time when people see that someone is almost done fighting with Elites they join, which makes other Pyromancers near join the fight too.

4 Extinguish are optional, but better bring them in case something goes wrong.
