Green Crack 5.7 - Tioga Cliffs Bridge - Top Rope Solo 7-30-23

Finally an amazing 5.7 climb on the Tioga Pass! Most climbs here are 5.10 and up! Today I climbed my new route "Green Crack" clean all the way to the top! Super stoked! Green Crack is the most prominent broken crack on the 80' face. Starting out with small 5.6 stair step ledges leading up to the main feature which is the broken crack 5.7+. The climb ends with 20' of 5.7 friction to the top. Your anchor is the bridge superstructure.

This climb is located just up the road a few hundred yards from the Tioga Cliffs Crag. Look for the green expansion bridge. The climb is under the bridge. There is a parking lot/View Point right across the road. Super easy approach. As far as I know this is a FA, so I felt that it was a worthy 5.7. * Back Story: My climbing journey has been filled with twists and turns. During my teenage and young adult years, I developed a deep love for climbing. However, as time went by, life took me in different directions, and I found myself away from the world of climbing. It wasn't until I reached the age of 60 that I rediscovered my dormant love for this thrilling sport.

For years, I had been visiting Yosemite as a photographer, capturing moments of rock climbers scaling the towering walls. Watching their sheer determination and skill reignited a fire within me, to climb once more. It happened to be my 60th birthday when I found myself in Yosemite Valley, and that day would mark a pivotal moment in my life.

With renewed enthusiasm, I made my way to the mountain shop. There, I purchased a rope, a pair of climbing shoes, a harness, a Grigri, a Microtrax, and a chock bag. Equipped with updated gear, I started out on my climbing adventures once again.

Now at the age of 65, I find myself back where I belong—up on the rock face, embracing the challenges and thrills that climbing offers. I'm beyond grateful for the opportunity to return to the world of climbing, taking back a part of myself that had been dormant for far too long.
