The Deep Inspiration Breath Hold technique offers advantages for treating left sided breast cancer. In this technique, patients are asked to take a deep breath in during treatment, and hold this breath while the radiation is delivered. By taking a deep breath in, this primarily helps to move the heart out of the radiation treatment fields, therefore reducing radiation exposure to the heart.
