Columbarium Design: St Mary’s Cemetery 2018

In 2018, The City of Calgary commissioned Hilton Landmarks to set the stage for an exciting columbarium garden design for St. Mary's Cemetery. Once the design was finalized, The City selected industry leading Sunset Memorial & Stone to manufacture the columbaria.

The video highlights how exciting columbarium design relies on a collaboration with cemetery management, a talented cemetery landscape architectural firm and the selection of an experienced columbarium manufacturer that has the design capabilities and engineering skillset to make a vision, reality.

The City of Calgary enlisted Hilton Landmarks to develop an unused section of St. Mary''s Cemetery entry way to create a show stopping entrance focal point. This 506 columbarium niche project plays with a two columbaria styles. The custom curved columbaria and tall "sentinel like" columbarium towers which set the backdrop for St. Mary’s dramatic new entrance. Visitors are drawn towards two custom curved columbaria that flank The Cemetery’s original cross. At each end of the curved columbaria are custom designed larger family columbarium niches. Grand metal trellises introduce exciting composition elements to the tall columbarium towers that pose as the backdrop for this stunning columbarium garden setting. Two large benches provide places for reflection. Bold black flower pots, and raised flower beds provide colour, texture and foliage for year round interest.

The vision is inspirational, the design is brilliant, the columbarium design and manufacturing are stunning.
