Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden says he has “no doubt” he and running mate Senator Kamala Harris will be “declared the winners” when the vote count ends in the 2020 US election.

Speaking from Delaware, the former vice president said he and Senator Harris “feel good” about the state of the US election.

“It is the will of the voters, no one, not anything else, that chooses the president of the United States of America.

“So each ballot must be counted, and that’s what we’re going to see going through now, and that’s how it should be.

“Democracy is sometimes messy, it sometimes requires a little patience as well, but that patience has been rewarded now for more than 240 years with a system of governance that’s been the envy of the world.”

Mr Biden urged America to stay calm and wait for the count to be completed.

“We’ll know very soon, so thank you all for your patience,” he said.

Mr Biden currently has 264 electoral college votes to President Donald Trump's 214 with four key battleground states still too close to call: Nevada, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia.
