Considerations for Advancing Population Health, Diabetes Prevention and Diabetes Management

This presentation explores the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in advancing population health, with a focus on innovative strategies for diabetes prevention and management. We will examine AI approaches developed for risk prediction, informing targeted interventions to prevent diabetes and tailored care models based on individual and population-level models. The talk will also explore how new data streams from environmental imaging to wearable devices are reshaping diabetes care and empowering continuous monitoring. The discussion will also address critical challenges such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, equity, and ethical considerations, highlighting the collaborative cross-sector efforts needed to ensure equitable and responsible use of AI in population health.

Objectives:
Identify AI applications that support diabetes risk prediction, prevention, and management at a population level.
Understand how AI-driven personalized care and continuous monitoring can enhance patient outcomes in diabetes care.
Recognize the equity and ethical considerations in using AI for population health interventions, including data privacy and algorithmic bias.

More about this speaker:
Professor Laura C. Rosella, Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto, holds the Canada Research Chair in Population Health Analytics and the Stephen Family Research Chair in Community Health at the Institute for Better Health, Trillium Health Partners. She is the Education Lead for the Temerty Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research and Education in Medicine and Associate Director of Education at the Data Science Institute. She leads the AI for Public Health Research Training Platform (AI4PH), which focuses on establishing an AI workforce in public health. She has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and is the Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Public Health.
