Continuous heavy rains in Mannargudi have caused extensive damage to paddy crops. Farmers in the region are in distress, as thousands of acres have submerged. Across four delta districts, more than 1.24 lakh acres of Samba and Thalady paddy fields are reported to be under water.

Many farmers, who had taken loans for cultivation, are demanding Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K Stalin to provide adequate relief to those affected.
