On World Squash Day 2022 (Oct. 15), Rick Penders, a native of the Netherlands, and squash pro at The Squash Academy and StreetSquash, played an exhibition match against Timothy Brownell, the number one squash player in the U.S.

The match took place at at the S. L. Green StreetSquash Center in Harlem. (Rick won the match 3-1)

StreetSquash is a nonprofit after school program that introduces 5th - 12th graders in Harlem to the sport of squash. They also provide academic support including homework help, private one-on-one tutoring, and college prep. Students also travel around the country and the world to participate in squash tournaments, squash camps, and academic enrichment opportunities. Mental health services are also provided for students. The program is completely free for students and families. They're funded entirely by donations and grants. Every single one of the hundreds of students who have gone through the program since its inception in 1999 has successfully graduated high school. Many have gone on to play squash in college.
