Ugly dresser gets a modern modification

Описание к видео Ugly dresser gets a modern modification

This dresser was about to get thrown away. It only had a little damage, but it was just a bit ugly. We saw that it was solid wood, so we thought we should save it and try to make it better looking. We did this entire makeover with cheap materials and cheap tools. We gave it a midcentury modern look. This involved some wood working to make the legs and drawer pulls. We did a bit of experimenting, but ultimately we like the way it came out.

We didn't have to go far for this dresser. One of my dad's former roommates was getting rid of it. So he just left it at my house. Usually when we find a dresser, we had to go get it. But this dresser came to me. It pretty much met all the criteria that we look for in a dresser to fix up. It was ugly, had all the drawers, made of solid wood, and was free.

We don't tend to get a lot of money for our furniture flips, so it was essential that we minimize costs. The dresser was free, the paint was $2, and will last for several other projects. The stain and polyurethane cost like $18 each, which is a little high, but they should last for several projects. Unfortunately, after this project, I didn't properly close the can of polyurethane, and rain got in it and messed it all up. The circular saw was a gift, the orbital sander was a gift. The belt sander was $5. The orbital sander sandpaper was in a 50 pack for $18. That will last for many projects. The belt sander sandpaper came in a three-pack, I think for $13. Those will last a long time. The paint brushes come in three-packs from the dollar store. Oil based polyurethane usually ruins those cheap brushes, so I tend to save that step for last, so that I can do that whole project with one brush. And the legs and drawer pulls were all made from salvaged scrap wood, which I got for free. The screws cost money, but I got them for my greenhouse project. Screws tend to cost about $10 a box. If I was only doing one or two projects, I would just get small amounts of all these products, instead of having all this extra material hanging around my house.

We named this channel "We Found These" because these are all projects that we found. We actually used to live in an apartment that had an alley in the back, and we used to find discarded furniture out there and I would just carry it home on a skateboard. We hope to inspire people to try these same kinds of projects. If we can find these, I'm sure anyone can. And if we can find ways to repair and update furniture on a budget, I'm pretty sure other people can, too.

You can find us on IG under the name wefoundthese, and TikToc under the name wefoundthese . We used to have a website by the same name, but we let it go.
