Introduction:
Pir Sohawa is a rapidly developing tourist resort located 17 kilometers (11 miles) from Islamabad on top of Margalla Hills. It has a 3000 plus ft elevation and is geographically part of Haripur District.
It is the tallest spot in Islamabad from where people can have a view of the city and indeed, it is a breathtaking sight. The cool breezes, greenery all around just make this place extremely soothing and refreshes the soul. It makes one more close to nature. This resort is the talk of the town for its luscious food, which consists of both Pakistani as well as western cuisine. Here the tourists can enjoy the best food of their life, as Pakistani cuisine is one of the best in the world. The staff is really polite and welcoming specifically to foreigners so they enjoy great hospitality here. It has a small trail, which takes you to the maximum height hills, and from there you can have a sight of the National Assembly, Rawal Lake, Faisal Mosque and other fascinating places around.
Like many other parts of the Margalla Hills, Haripur and Galyat mountains, Pir Sohawa sees rapid, uncontrolled development and encroachment on National Park land, which results in damages to the environment through pollution and heavy traffic. On 6 January 2012, after almost six years, Pir Sohawa received few inches of snowfall.
Pir Sohawa is at the top of several hiking trails of the Margalla Hills. Dino Valley is a large theme park in the hills, having a variety of cafes and children's play areas for all ages. Its location adds to the traffic problems
along Pir Sohawa road.
