"For Laura Milford, every second counts. She has a rare disease called hereditary angioedema (HAE). For patients with HAE, episodes are frequent and the symptoms appear rapidly, requiring immediate and advanced medical attention. When Laura moved to the Dixie County area, she partnered with Dixie County Emergency Services to help train their team on HAE and how to care for her during an episode. In June 2022, Laura was transported to HCA Florida North Florida Hospital by Dixie County EMS to be treated for a very severe HAE attack.

About a week after that attack, Laura learned that during her previous treatment, the nursing team reached out to the North Florida Hospital's pharmacy team to ensure her medication would be kept on hand for her for future episodes. This was extremely impactful for Laura as her medication is very rare, expensive and is extremely hard to find due to recent supply chain challenges.
