It's been a long time since my 1:42:19 and since then lots of new discoveries have been made. I'm really happy with this run, as it has no major timeloss or technical issues, which has plagued most of my previous attempts.
One of the new things is about the movement in this game. Sprinting is the fastest type of movement, but after a short period of time you will start losing speed and eventually move fairly slow. What Nordanix found was that it's actually faster to sprint then, before losing speed, jump again and repeat. You can also just refresh your sprint by stopping and starting it quickly, which is useful if you don't have the room to jump. This ends up saving lots of time throughout the whole run. You will also see me use a pistol whenever possible to sprint with. This is because those type of weapons have the fastest sprinting speed, which also helps saving time.
Next we have a couple of new skips, which are one of the big reasons for this much timesave. The biggest one that has been found, by me, is the Ramon skip. In the level with the same name, you can actually skip the boss fight by jumping over the railings and straight into the end cutscene. However it also leaves you with 1 less chip upgrade, which you would normally get after defeating the boss, but it's definitely worth it. Nordanix then found an earlier variant of the skip, shown at 49:52, and overall this ends up saving ~1 minute and 50 seconds.
Next we got the gate skip, also found by me, in Betrayed. With this one we don't have to kill all enemies in the room and wait to be able to activate the power for the gate to open. Instead we jump over it, shown at 57:07. It saves ~45 seconds and isn't hard to do once you understand it.
The last big one is the elevator skip, which Nordanix found on accident. Normally when activating elevators, the button is in the middle it, which after pressed shuts the doors immediately. However, he found out that the one in Burning Tower is close enough that you can stand outside and still press it, which then causes you to be teleported where the elevator ride would normally end. This overall saves ~27 seconds, and is shown at 1:28:48.
Then there's a small one in Downzone, called chain skip. Normally we have to open a gate by destroying the chain on it and platform around to where we need to go, but we can just get on top of a shelf and get there faster. It saves ~12 seconds compared to going the normal way, shown at 53:00.
Lastly are all the other minor things, so first we'll talk about enemy spawn trigger skips. Like other games, some enemies only spawn if your character collides with a certain spawn triggers. However, there are several places during the run where we can actually jump over them and skip the enemies from spawning. This generally doesn't save much time, but is more useful to make it more safer as we then don't need to deal with as many enemies shooting at us. Here are the places I do it: 58:29, 1:01:32, 1:29:36, 1:29:47.
There are much more new things I could talk about, but there's honestly too many for me to explain here. So if you have any questions about anything in the run, feel free to ask :)
