The technique I used was as follows:

I used a Sony VCR (SLV-N81 or extremely similar model), my computer, a special FireWire converter box and a tape from about 2002 with TV from 2007 on it. I used this setup to record We Are number One directly onto the tape and use the same setup to transfer it back. It gets back on my computer as an uncompressed AVI file so the only loss comes from the VHS. This may have also corrected the vertical hold as well and let some colors past the 25th generation
