KA 942 and the Hutt Valley Line's 150th Anniversary ~ 14/04/2024 (HD)

In April 2024, KiwiRail, Metlink and four railway preservation groups teamed up to put on a big show at Wellington railway station, all to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Wellington to Lower Hutt railway's opening. Lower Hutt station itself is still open today under the name 'Western Hutt', but it's now just the sole intermediate stop on the Melling branch.

The event featured displays from the Silverstream Railway, Steam Incorporated, Mainline Steam (with KA 942) and the Pahiatua Railcar Society (with RM 31). There was also a Matangi EMU whose cab was open for the public to look at, and I was very happy to finally get a chance to sit in a Matangi driver's seat. Of course, I also got shots of KA 942's footplate at the Standard Railcar's cab, amongst many other things.
