We Nepali alongside Chinese, Indian are considered as non-native English speaker. To apply for work, study or for immigration purpose, we need to give English language proficiency test like IELTS (International English Language Testing System). TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), PTE (Pearson Test of English), GRE, GMAT, SAT, Duolingo English test and so on. Among them, IELTS is the most popular as it has been recognized by more than 10,000 institutions from over 140 countries.
IELTS was established in 1989 and is owned/ managed by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English. In Nepal, British Council and IDP organize the IELTS tests.
There are two forms of IELTS test i.e., Paper-based IELTS or Computer-Aided IELTS
Likewise, there are two modules of the IELTS:
• IELTS Academic Module
• IELTS General Training Module
IELTS Academic Module are designed for those who are willing to get enrolled in the universities of native English speaking countries like United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and so on.
Similarly, IELTS General Training is mainly designed for those who are willing to undertake non-academic training or have work experience. It is also for the one looking for the immigration purposes.
There are four parts in IELTS test:
Listening: 30 minutes
Reading: 60 minutes
Writing: 60 minutes
Speaking: 11–14 minutes
The IELTS test’s total time is: 2 hours and 45 minutes.
In this video, we have explained the band score and calculation of overall band score in IELTS. The result of Paper-based IELTS test usually comes within 2 weeks whereas Computer-delivered test’s result comes in 3 to 5 days.
Regarding validity of
The validity of IELTS score is for 2 years. The Cost to give IELTS test in Nepal (British Council) effective from January 1, 2022 is mentioned below:
• IELTS on Paper – Rs 25300
• IELTS on Computer – Rs 23650
• IELTS for UK Visas and Immigration in centre – Rs28000
The cost might be later revised by British Council or IDP.
