Rahab was a harlot who lived in Jericho. When Joshua sent spies into Jericho to spy out the city, she took them in. When the king got word of spies being in the city and staying with Rahab, he sent men to Rahab's house to capture them. Rahab said that they did stay with her, but the previous night had left the city, and she didn't know where they were. In fact Rahab did know where they were, because she hid them on her roof. In other words, Rahab lied in order to save these men's lives. In the New Testament, Rahab is commended as a woman of faith for her actions in this story. Knowing that, did Rahab sin when she lied about the spies? In Lesson 4 of our study of Joshua we learn the answer to this question.
