On a warm summer night at Shea before a big crowd of 49,661, the Mets (75-48) take on the Cardinals (66-57) in what would be one of the most memorable games of the season. Coming into the game, the focus was on the two leading MVP candidates in late August, Albert Pujols and Carlos Beltran. The two would not disappoint, as Pujols exploded for 7 RBI via 2 homeruns in the first 5 innings. The Mets would have the last laugh, as Carlos Delgado would go deep twice, including a grand slam for his 400th career homer and Beltran would walk the Mets off with a game winning homerun to come from behind in the bottom of the 9th.
