He lost focus for just one second. One wrong roll, one bad decision — it was over. He smiled, but the pain was clear. Even the street went quiet.

🎲 History of Backgammon

Backgammon is one of the oldest known board games in the world, with its origins tracing back to ancient Persia. Archaeological findings suggest that the game is over **5,000 years old. The oldest known board resembling backgammon was discovered in **Shahr-e Sukhteh (the Burnt City) in southeastern Iran, featuring 24 points and 30 pieces—very similar to the modern game.

During the *Sassanian Empire, backgammon reached its cultural peak. It is said that **Bozorgmehr*, the wise vizier of King Khosrow I (Anushirvan), invented or refined the game to symbolize the philosophy of life and fate.

The board itself represents the universe:

24 points for the 24 hours of a day,

30 pieces for the days of a month,

and the dice symbolizing the role of luck and destiny.

From Persia, the game spread to India, the Arab world, Byzantium, and eventually Europe. The English name Backgammon comes from Middle English words meaning “back game” or “game of returning.”

Today, backgammon remains popular not only in Iran but also in Turkey, Azerbaijan, Greece, and many European countries. It stands as a timeless symbol of Persian culture, wisdom, and strategy.

🏆 Backgammon training

Objective:

The goal of backgammon is to move all your 15 checkers around the board and bear them off (remove them) before your opponent does.

#### 🧩 Game Components

The board has 24 points (12 on each side).

Each player has *15 checkers*.

Two dice are used for movement.

Players move in opposite directions.

---

#### ⚙️ Starting the Game

1. Each player rolls one die.

2. The player with the higher number starts the game using both dice for their first move.

3. Players then alternate turns, rolling both dice each time.

---

#### 🎯 Movement Rules

Each die shows how many points a checker can move.

If you roll doubles (e.g., two sixes), you play four times that number.

You cannot move to a point occupied by two or more of your opponent’s checkers (it’s blocked).

If you land on a point with only *one opponent checker, you hit it, sending it to the **bar*.

---

#### 🔁 Entering from the Bar

If your checker is hit, it must re-enter the game before you can make any other move. Roll the dice and re-enter it in your opponent’s home board on an open or single-occupied point.

---

#### 🏁 Bearing Off

Once all 15 of your checkers are in your home board, you can start *bearing off*—removing checkers according to the dice rolled.

The player who removes all checkers first *wins the game*.

---

#### 💡 Strategy Tips

Try to build consecutive points (a “prime”) to block your opponent.

Avoid leaving single checkers (“blots”) exposed.

Sometimes, sacrificing a checker can lead to a stronger position later
