FAST! This was a race plane meant to showcase German engineering an might. This also meant it was a propaganda tool. In fact there was a temporary designation of Me 109R to spark confusion among the allies trying to gauge Luftwaffe capabilities. While the initial version was never mean to be armed there were plans for the V4. The reality was that the added weight of arming the platform would have made it just as capable as the Bf 109 already in service, but with less guns.
