Aiming without sights: Floating Focus - Aiming technique for traditional bows | BogenSportWelt.de

A target technique premiere! Thomas introduces you to his personal aiming technique, which he calls 'Floating Focus'. As far as we know, this has never been described in any textbook before. As you know, a traditional bow shot over the shelf also means: no let-off as with the compound and it becomes difficult the longer you take to aim. In addition, aiming over the bow window or holding the bow at an angle, as practiced by many shooters, is not an option for Thomas, as his stance is strongly oriented towards the Olympic recurve style.

However, an anatomically sensible shooting style with a stable stance (low anchor, lots of power, low shoulder) then requires a "new" way of aiming without a sight. With his floating focus, the bow appears quasi 'transparent' and a reference point on the bow is used for aiming. The advantage of this aiming technique is a maximum stable draw and shoulder caused by the deep and therefore firm anchor, as well as the steady hold - the shooting style can therefore be executed cleanly in textbook fashion.

But how can you learn the floating focus?
In contrast to an aiming aid such as a movable scope, you use a fixed reference point on the bow, which you then have to hold under or over your target depending on the distance. You also need to practise changing/floating focus - does that work for you? Give it a try, because there's no harm in trying!
