Christianity is a relationship with God, not a religion. God is not seeking religion with you but a relationship.

How to make sure my relationship with God is good

Make sure you are born again.
Being born again entails believing and confessing that Jesus Chirst is the Son of God - John 10:10)
Stop postponing the salvation of your soul, you don’t have tomorrow, what you have is today - Mathew 6:34, James 4:13-17
Without Jesus we are nothing. No one goes to the Father, without Jesus Christ.

If you are backslidden , rededicate your life to God.
To be backslidden means to fall from the original place.
Signs of backsliding include : Not loving Jesus like you used to, feeling distant from God, feeling there is a crevice/gorge between you and God, lack of zeal for the things of God, cheating on your spouse, playing church, trying to have the best of the world and the church.
You can be in the house, but not connected to God. Desire to be connected and have God move in your life.
Never sacrifice your relationship with God at the altar of friendship. (Daniel 1:8) If you are going to go to the best of God, you must be willing to go it alone.

Pursue love and a clean heart
Forgive God, forgive others and yourself (Ephesians 4:32)
Your relationship with yourself affects your relationship with others.

Deal with unconfessed sin
Two types of sin: the one you confess yourself in your little corner and you feel peace & one which even after praying you still feel condemnation (This type of sin is the one to be confessed to one another - James 5:16)
The blood of Jesus is the one that covers sin,not our own efforts.
You have to embarrass (expose) sin before it embarasses (exposes) you.
We just don’t confess sin, we renounce it as well [1 John 1:9, Proverbs 28:13]
Put things in order, then victory is yours (Joshua 7 - The Sin of Achan)
Integrity is who you are when no one is watching. Be more conscious of God than people.
Do not entertain sin, it's time to come out of these things. Sin caused Jesus our Master to be mocked, to be laughed at, to be scorned at and to die.
