In this video i have discussed the law regarding contempt of court in India. In the first part I have explained what is contempt of court and the kinds of contempt. The Contempt of Court Act, 1971 has classified contempt as civil and criminal contempt. The punishment provided in the Act for the contempt is Simple imprisonment for the term of two years and fine upto Rs. 2000.

Recently, Supreme Court has taken sou motto contempt proceeding against advocate Prashant Bhushan for his tweets mentioning the Chief Justice of India , SA Bobde and role of Supreme Court in State of affairs in the country. The Court has pronounced the judgement on 14 August 2020 and held Prashant Bhushan guilty of criminal contempt.
