Cayman 718 Water Meth & Centre Radiator Upgrade [+21HP & +53lbfts]

Does your 718 Cayman feel lethargic? Without a high-performance intercooler being available, the ECU will reduce output as charge temps climb. Enter water-methanol injection to ease the pain.

You're all too familiar with this scenario with a turbocharged car on a hot summers day, you put your foot down and it feels powerful and after you've enjoyed the power a few times it seems to slowly disappear. As the factory intercooler saturates with heat and doesn't have sufficient cooling power to consistently keep charge temperatures cool, the factory ECU begins to limit output.

To prevent this you'd usually install a high-performance intercooler but on some cars the stock space constraints mean that even a high-performance intercoolers cooling power isn't sufficient and on cars like the 718 Cayman whereby there is no high-performance aftermarket intercooler, you need to look for other options.

This is where water-methanol injection comes in. Using a mix of water and methanol which is injected somewhere along the intake pipework of the vehicle, or after the intercooler as on this vehicle. On this car, the water serves the purpose of cooling the charge temps further and the cylinder temps as it evaporates and the methanol acts as an octane booster. What this combination does is not only reclaim lost performance from charge temps and cylinder temps that could be cooler but also allowing the ECU to operate in the higher output maps for longer.

This particular kit was setup to progressively come into action at 0.7 PSI.

At the same time as the water-methanol installation we installed a third centre radiator retrofit kit to improve the water cooling on this car.

🟢 Max gains = +21HP & +53lbfts
🟢 Peak gains = +13HP & 24lbfts
🟢 Max output = 398HP & 375lbfts
