Brook Trout Bonanza! After Backpacking Three Days I Found This Lake For Some Overland Truck Camping.

After enjoying three days of backpacking (   • Wilderness Paradise! Backpacking & Wi...  ) with my animals, Ash, Juni, Bill and Levi, we were all a little tired. But I didn't have quite enough "wilderness freedom fix." So, I did a little more exploring and was lucky enough to find this beautiful little lake, hidden away deep in the forest. It was the perfect place to extend my trip another night and recuperate from all the hiking, and to enjoy some more really good trout fishing. Having already enjoyed a delicious trout dinner earlier in the trip I had planned to let all these fish go, however, one didn't leave it up to me! Lol! Kinda kicked my butt and swam away.

In accordance with local fire restrictions I ran my Firebox Nano Camping Stove (https://www.fireboxstove.com/value-ki...) on gas (Iso butane canisters) cooking up a healthy/gourmet version of beef and broccoli (filet mignon!). The beef had been in my backpack throughout the entire trip. I wanted to see how long I could keep a steak in my pack, so I froze it at home and made a "pack cooler" (made of Reflectix & box tape). I made it to the third night, (although the steak wasn't at all cold...it wasn't spoiled) when I finally cooked it. Another experiment I tried was the lightweight container protecting four eggs in my pack through the 4 day trip--it worked great, and weighs nothing. Rather than sleeping on the ground this last night, I had the luxury of a nice soft bed in the rooftop tent of my mountain truck overlanding rig (04 Toyota Tundra 250k mi). It was a great trip!

I'm Steven Despain, an inventor who loves to camp. I design outdoor products based on my 40+ years of camping experience. I've always been curious to find "the best way" and I overthink everything! Lol, you can believe me when I say I've tried everything! I've learned what works best, and why. I take my life's experience and use it to design gear that I think represents "the best way." I test it myself (often times, in these videos) before offering it to my customers. It's my customers who make this all possible (me camping for a living)--thank you! They seem to like my goods as much as I do. That's how I hold up my end of the deal. I strive to offer the very best solutions made to the highest quality standards. My customers support and loyalty obligate me to do my best to keep our relationship a "win-win." I'm a big believer in symbiotic mutualism which is how I view my relationship with my customers. I think it's "the best way."
