Warning As Freeze Continues, Ireland 1982

With road and rail routes still blocked after the heavy snow, the Air Corps help those who have been cut off.

Six Air Corps helicopters flew twenty seven ambulance missions and eleven food drops. More food drops are planned including the village of Newcastle in County Dublin which has been cut off for days. However, the Army press office has issued a statement saying that they have no supplies of bread or milk. People in difficulty or in need of essential food supplies should contact their local Garda station.

The helicopters are also being used to assist the ESB in restoring electrical power, and bring those who have been without power back on the grid.

The Automobile Association (AA) has warned that most roads throughout the country are still in a dangerous condition. While many roads have opened up again, there are fears that the freezing temperatures will again make them impassable.

The AA advise drivers to stay off the roads.
