Late Antiquity and the "Dark Ages" are a period of history tremendously misunderstood and not taught about very often in schools, but Insularis Draco takes up this rich and vibrant setting and runs with it. Focusing on north-western europe between the 4th and 7th centuries, the mod offers a plethora of different campaigns in different centuries, bringing the period to life in vivid and immersive detail. Whether you're vying to become the king of all Ireland, drive out the Saxons from Britain, desperately try and hold the failing Western Roman Empire in Gaul together by a shoestring, or rampaging forth across the Rhine under the banner of the Franks or Burgundians, there is a wealth of challenging gameplay and educational material on offer alike. With the 1.0 release of the mod this year, Insularis Draco has confidently secured its place as my favourite Medieval 2 mod of all time, and I definitely don't say that lightly...
